Cannes Biopic Probes Yves Saint Laurent Dark Side: Pierre Berge, the monetary mind supporting the YSL empire, along with the life partner of legendary Yves Saint Laurent, decided to auction his private library - a collection of some of the very valuable novels starting15th century to modern day. But the money wasn't for me. As you may know, they've got a foundation that needs money and a big part of that sale went to the foundation. Notably in the '60s, the whole company around him as well as Yves Saint Laurent really pushed right into a course that was new. Saint Laurent is, along with Chanel, the most important Fashion designer of the 20th century. But they have to admit that amazing ranges were created by Yves while using alcohol and drugs.
Hence, their source said, the iconic YSL emblem shall be no more," reports. Others have wondered what YSL co-founder Pierre Berge makes of the suggestion, as he has worked hard to keep the late Yves Saint Laurent's memory alive. Hedi was announced as Stefano Pilati's successor at YSL in March 2012. Berge had hired Slimane in 1996 to run the menswear department of the household, taking over from Saint Laurent.
Given the amount of engagement the real Berge had with this film - his Yves Saint Laurent Foundation was greatly involved with bringing the archives to life in a series of amazing fashion parade scenes - it does tend to believe sometimes like something of a vanity project, a love letter to a partner now gone (Saint Laurent expired in 2008) in which Berge is the long suffering Rock of Gibraltar who slowly watches as his beloved is reduced, by way of a variety of psychological hypersensitivity and addictive behavior, to a shell of a man.
Plus they brought them 15 to 20 looks for each of the main characters: Loulou de la Falaise (Lea Seydoux) and Betty Catroux (the model Aymeline Valade) as Yves Saint Laurent's muses; Pierre Berge (played by Jeremie Renier); Jacques de Bascher (YSL's lover, by Philippe Garrel), Anne Marie Munoz, (the celebrated head of YSL studio, by Amira Casar) and Yves Saint Laurent himself (Gaspard Ulliel).
So they located the clothes and design part of L'amour fou, a fascinating documentary about Yves Saint Laurent and his longtime partner Pierre Berge that is now in limited release, to be less interesting than filmmaker Pierre Thoretton's framing device: Berge's oversight of the disposal of his and Saint Laurent's huge assortment of art and antiques and the story of Saint Laurent's battles within the years with depression, alcohol and drugs. Without batting an eye, but Berge does it.
But in Pierre Thoretton's documentary, L'Amour Fou, which opens with this historical press conference, it's Yves Saint Laurent's partnership with Pierre Berge, in life and business, that shapes and narrates the long and enduring passion the two guys shared for attractiveness; their homes, their objets d'art, their buddies as well as muses. Pictured above: A still from the movie; Pierre Thoretton at the Tribeca Film Festival premiere and Pierre Berge. Yves retired in the time that was right and he expired in the correct time.
There has already been a film created in regards to the late designer, L'Amour Fou by Pierre Thoretton (2010), which depicts Berge and Saint Laurent as having shared an unconditional, kind and compassionate 'crazy love,' which the title translates to in English. Berge has frequently been referred to as the 'dean of YSL,' as he invested in the heritage of the brand and is well known for being highly protective.
