The Fashion Movie Even Non: A book they bought in the V&A Museum that has nothing to do their new favorite possession: The Private World of Yves Saint by Robert Berge Laurent and Pierre Murphy. The hedonistic glamour of the 60s and 70s might have been over but Saint Laurent's life was not, so to end in the creative, or even the personal, peak of his career is in a way to do the complete life story a disservice, preserving a minute in time under frosted glass rather than admitting the life that goes on beyond the applause and adulation. The man who observed this all in horrifying closeup, who saved Saint Laurent from being even more of a crash empowered some of it and, possibly, was his business partner and lover Pierre Berge. Saint Laurent had an almost sixth sense for the types of ethnic shifts that would alter the manner in which women participated with the world and Berge (played by Guillaume Gallienne) was a bulldog of a businessman with the heart of an aesthete.
To the film's credit, it generally does not present Saint Laurent or Berge as st - they see them damaging or sometimes betraying each other while their relationship remains solid - but it stays on message all of the way through:Powerful, pragmatic Berge saves the day every time amazing but unstable Saint Laurent begins to self destruct. One wonders what YSL himself would have thought of the film, made only five years after his passing.
The words 'jumpsuit, bolero jacket and pantsuit, safari appearance' were never to describe fashion, and infrequently heard prior to the expert of the YSL moment. Influenced by global culture, Saint Laurent drew his inspiration from the artwork and artists, from operas, literary figures, private muses and "aesthetic ghosts;" he has woven time to the eternal. Design and beading dazzle, along with the sumptuous light brings it all to life in brilliant YSL shade. All guys have a dark side as well as a light side.
